Newport Masonic Lodge has been a part of the Newport community since 1885. Many of the founding fathers of Newport were Freemasons. Recently, There have been several movies and books that discuss Masonry, some more accurately than others. We are not a secret society although we have some “secrets”. Our unofficial motto is: “making good men better”. For centuries, millions of men of every race, creed and religion throughout the world have found in Freemasonry the light to guide their search for answers to the eternal questions: what is the meaning of life? What is the nature of God and Man?

Freemasonry is a system of morality, veiled in allegory,
illustrated by symbols. It is
religious in character, in that every mason must have a belief in a supreme
being. It is a philosophy, which imparts moral and social virtues and fosters
Brotherly Love. Freemasonry can strengthen a man’s relationship with God, his
fellow man and his country.
